Special Dietary Needs
Food allergies, celiac disease, lactose intolerance, phenylketonuria (PKU), diabetes, conditions that require modified food textures, or any other disorder that impairs immune, digestive, neurological, and bowel functions are disorders that limit a students ability to learn.
GCS School Nutrition will accommodate students that have these disorders with reasonable menu modifications. Our goal is to ensure that all students receive an equal opportunity to participate in school meal programs.
To accommodate students with special dietary needs, parents must complete a special diet form that is signed by a licensed medical authority such as a physician. The USDA does not require these forms to be updated yearly, but if a student's diet changes (example: no longer allergic to eggs), parents must notify the Dietitian with a signed note.
Due to menu substitutions, product formulations, and manufacture practices, allergens will be listed when known. We will do our best to accommodate special dietary needs, however, the safest meals are those brought from home.
GCS School Nutrition is not required to accommodate food preferences, vegan/vegetarian diets, or diets that abstain from foods due to religion. However, we will try our best to include a variety of choices and meatless options.
GCS kitchens are peanut and tree nut free, with the exception of an individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Additionally, we do not serve pork and we have limited items with beef and/or pork gelatin.
